The Ludlow Massacre was a significant event in American labor history that occurred in 1914. It is an important topic to teach to middle and high school students as it helps them understand the struggles and challenges faced by workers and their families in the early 20th century. This history also highlights immigrant experiences in the West, the hidden labor of women and children, and the role of labor unions in protecting all workers’ rights. Using primary and secondary sources as well as archaeological materials, this session introduces interactive learning activities such as role-playing exercises, debates, and simulations to help students engage with the topic.
