As educators, we constantly seek tools that draw out the genius we know resides in every student. Through improvisation games and exercises, we can intentionally create environments for students’ genius, creativity, and brilliance to reveal itself. While improv is often thought of as being about comedy and making jokes, it is actually the ability to creatively build and create with our resources. Improv is a skill we use every day, as well as a powerful tool for building community in classrooms that celebrate equity, diversity, culture, and social-emotional learning. In this session, teachers will be introduced to improv tools they can easily implement in their classroom, regardless of their subject expertise, that support student learning and joyful engagement.
